What is your profession?: Since 2024 I have joined the "pension fund".
Do you have other hobbies besides fencing?: I have a great passion for Italy — the people, the countless villages, the art, the food. In short, everything.
How long have you been fencing?: When I was 10 I wanted to become a Formula 1 driver or Zorro. For lack of a driving licence at that age, I became the latter.
What do you like most about this sport?: You never stop learning.
Do you have a signature move?: Not really a specific signature move, but an irrepressible urge to pass on knowledge. Given my role within Schermers Groeningeveld, that comes in quite handy.
What was your most exciting or challenging fencing moment or match so far?: What I remember most is that every match was exciting — and still is.
What is a common misconception people have about fencing?: That it is "easy".
Which skills do you consider most important for a good fencer?: Keep it simple.
What tip(s) would you give to beginners?: Don't overthink it, and persevere.
